SERIES:

HEAR OUR

VOICE!

From Wanda's Facebook post, January 1, 2018:
"PREDICTION FOR 2018:  In two hours, it will be the future. The earth will still be here. The famous Monterey Cypress on 17 Mile Drive will still be here, but age will take its toll on the tree, as it is taking on me as revealed in this photo."

Column 121 - Part 1 - WHAT’S YOUR FOCUS ON FLOTUS, POTUS, AND COTUS?  (2/3/2017)
FEELING aghast, aflounder, or agog at the rapid-succession salvos fired by America’s new POTUS during his now-14-day-old presidential “honeymoon”; or are you enervated, exthused, or exhausted from media chat about the Twitter-tweeting Trump? If you answered yes to any or all the above, this new series on White House Honeymoonery 101 (WHH101) will give pointers on how to react as a COTUS which, in Twitter Talk, means Citizen of the United States. FLOTUS, in the event you haven’t yet guessed, now means First Lady of the United States. In this case, the new POTUS and FLOTUS are separately domiciled. He is in the WH while she is in New York in TT, one of her billionaire-husband’s monumental residences formally known as Trump Towers.  (CLICK TO CONTINUE READING...)
Column 122 - Part 2 - HOW TO HUDDLE IN YOUR OWN HOMETOWN  (2/10/2017)
PROTESTING is becoming passé, but huddling is in. If you’re participating in “Hear Our Voice” as kicked off by the Women’s March on Washington on Jan. 21, huddling is the second 10-day Action during the first 100 days of the Donald J. Trump’s presidency. The first 10-day Action was writing to your elected representatives by sending opinions on postcards you buy or make. Postage is 34 cents per card. Huddling 101 The word “huddle” conjures up visions of last Sunday’s Super Bowl football teams gathered on the field, helmets touching as they quick-plotted ball-passing strategies to help their teams make touchdowns. Merriam-Webster defines huddle as: “to come close together in a group.” “Teamwork in thought”, “mental partnership” and “collaboration to reach a specific goal” are variations of the verb “to huddle.” So, how do you get your huddle started and how long does it last?  (CLICK TO CONTINUE READING...)
Column 123 - Part 3 - HUDDLE FOR HOUNDS: HOME-HUNTING FOR HOUSELESS WOMEN’S DOGS  (2/17/2017)
SPEAKING as a candidate for homelessness, 70-year-old DC confides over coffee, “It’s terrifying. Mommy’s scared. What’s going to happen to her kids?” If the retired children’s tests editor can’t find shelter before the end of March, she and her doggie-kids could join the approximately 400 homeless women of... Column 124 - Part 4 - HUDDLING FOR MEN WHO HANG OUT ON PARK BENCHES  (2/24/2017)
CONTINUING our coverage of the Hear Our Voice movement that evolved from the Pink Pussyhat Women’s March on Jan. 21, the third Action proposed for the first 100 days of the month-old Trump administration’s “Honeymoon Period” is Protest. If you recall, a follow-up 10-Actions series is captioned “First we march, then (CLICK TO CONTINUE READING...)
Column 125 - Part 5 - WOMEN IN RED WILL REVEAL WHO’S “THE BOSS”  (3/2/2017)
DRESSING in red and taking the day off is the latest Action supported by the Women’s March on Washington to celebrate International Women’s Day, Wed., March 8. If President Donald J. Trump dismissed the January 21 Pink Pussyhat revolution as insignificant, whoa! As my dad might say, “Hold your horses, son, because this race is speeding up, starting with two Swords!” The first S-word is “Strike,” an act to impact the socio-economy by impeding consumer spending. Women—both homeless and sheltered—will strike on Wed., March 8. En masse, the ladies will prove to Washington which sex is really in power.  (CLICK TO CONTINUE READING...)
Column 126 - Part 6 - IS THE POSTCARD PARTY THE NEW POLITICAL LEFT?  (3/10/2017)
SENDING postcards is now the rage. If Dad were here, he’d ask, “Is the Postcard Party the new political left?” “Well, it is a women’s world,” Mother would answer. Dad, a non-argumentative right-winger, might have conceded, “You’re durn tootin’. . .”  Which leads to the Pink Pussyhat Women’s March that stood in solidarity with the International Women’s Strike organizers, feminists of color, and grassroots groups in planning... Column 127 - Part 7 - IF JOSE IS DEPORTED, WILL MARIA BECOME HOMELESS (3/17/2017)
MARCHING came first, followed by huddles. If huddling succeeded, you’re protesting something during the Trump administration’s 100-day honeymoon period. My protest subject remains homelessness. Last week, a discussion of non-sheltered persons’ trash morphed into the political hot-potato: If Jose, an undocumented alien with a criminal record, is legally deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (aka ICE), will his... Column 128 - Part 8 - THE BATHROOM BATTLE VS. FECES ON THE FOOTPATH  (3/24/2017)
PRACTICING intersectional feminism is the Pink Pussyhat Movement’s recommended 5th Action. If you’ve been participating in this series that’s greening America’s grassroots during the Trump administration’s first...  (CLICK TO CONTINUE READING...)
Column 129 - Part 9 - POLITICAL BASEBALL’S SEASON OPENER: STRIKE ONE! TWO TO GO!  (3/31/2017)
PLAYING Washington politics is like a baseball game full of chawing, spit-balling and crotch-hitching. If the team that’s up gets more hits than strikes, it wins; but three strikes is an out. Players on the Presidential Powerbrokers team are like rookies in spring training. If they strike out, will the metaphorical People’s Party team automatically win? No. They’ll get their turn at bat and might steal home like runners steal bases. Besides powerful pitchers, the teams need fans like you. If you’re unsure, answer these questions before choosing your team. Am I comfortably sheltered now? Might I become uprooted if the wrong team wins?   (CLICK TO CONTINUE READING...)
Column 130 - Part 10 - SUICIDE BY SLEEPING BAG AND HOW YOU CAN HELP PREVENT IT  (4/7/2017)
WRITING a good lead sentence was easy this week: suicide by sleeping bag! If my eyes hadn’t tricked me, you’d be reading “Hear Our Vote!” Instead, as I sped up Carmel Hill last Sunday, I passed an occupied sleeping bag beside the freeway and mentally noted: Time: 10:30 a.m. Place: Between Munras Ave. and Pacific Grove/Pebble Beach off ramps on Hwy. 1 heading south. Setting: Sleeping bag was fully spread out; 5-7 feet to the west, slightly askew instead of running parallel to the pavement; left corner open like a flap. Unlike most forest-green or gun-metal-grey interiors I’ve seen, this bag’s was creamy. “Maybe I saw a white pillow,” I mused. “or perhaps a...  (CLICK TO CONTINUE READING...)
Column 131 - Part 11 - THE ANGUISH OF THE ANGELS THAT WAS FELT AROUND THE WORLD  (4/14/2017)
VOTING is the sixth Action suggested by the Pink Pussyhat Movement. If you practice the “Hear Our Vote!” techniques recommended during the Trump administration’s first 100 days, you’ll learn to encourage people to register to vote. You’ll inspire disillusioned voters to reactivate voting privilege.  (CLICK TO CONTINUE READING...)
Column 132 - Part 12 - GETTING KIDS IN RESISTANCE TO TRUMP’S BULLYHOO  (4/21/2017)
KEEPING up with Trump has stretched Pink Pussyhat Movement’s 10 Actions/100 Days teams’ imaginative maxi-minds. If Action Seven, “We Belong Together”, seems brain-boggling, it is! It entails a week of activity to get kids on the resistance bandwagon by forming Unity Circles. For instance, a school principal has all students form a circle around the school by holding hands, or a teacher has children form a ring in the classroom. A pastor invites adults and youngsters to join hands during Sunday service. A family joins hands before dinner.  (CLICK TO CONTINUE READING...)
Column 133 - Part 13 - WHERE HAVE ALL THE HOMELESS CHILDREN GONE?  (4/28/2017)
CONTINUING last week’s seventh Pink Pussyhat Action column, “Getting children in resistance to Trump’s bullyhoo,” I ask: “If kids are homeless, how can they be recruited?” Inner Buddha says: “Find them first.” “Okay, so where do I start?” “Begin where grass roots grow. Where would homeless children be... (CLICK TO CONTINUE READING...)
Column 134 - Part 14 - GIVING NEEDY CHILDREN A SECOND CHANCE FOR A FUTURE  (5/5/2017)
KEEPING pace with the Pink Pussyhat Movement’s “10 Actions/100 Days” project reminds me of my daddy’s Ozarks hound dog. If Blue really knew what he was hunting, he’d have brought back a duck or a squirrel instead of biting off his own tail. That’s a metaphor for the presidential honeymoon that ended Sat., April 29. Actions 8 and 9 were announced together on Friday, April 28. Action 9 suggests followers attend a May Day protest of choice last Monday. Action 8, “Let’s Talk: Why We Resist” suggests one-on-one discussions.  (CLICK TO CONTINUE READING...)
Column 135 - Part 15 - DO YOU DARE TO SIGN THE PLEDGE OF LIBERATION?  (5/12/2017)
SIGNING the “Pledge of Liberation” marks my final act as writer of this series. If you agree with the principles in this tenth action of the Pink Pussyhat Movement’s “10 Actions/100 Days” project, I suggest you make three copies of this column and mail them to your elected representatives, with a cover note stating...  (CLICK TO CONTINUE READING...)
